Apple Pie Pastry

Delicious, looks complicated but very simple to make!!- this is the best way to describe this Apple pie pastry❤🍎 Apple pie originated in England and it can be made as pastries too.

Your whole house is going to be filled with the rich aroma from apple and cinnamon when baking this!! These apple pie pastries are my favourite and it is one among the traditional pastries available here in Denmark.

Whenever we go for shopping , I could find these fresh-baked pastries in the bakery section and I would definitely pick them up. But when it can be baked at home and you get the same taste, then why not?

The caramelized apple which is sauted in butter along with cinnamon filled inbetween the pastry sheets is really mouth-watering. Every bite of it is simply delicious!!

Any variety of apple can be used. Both red apple and green apple works good here. I didn’t remove the skin of the apple as the skin portion has most of the nutrients. If you want to peel the skin, you can.

These apple pie pastries can be served as a snack or for breakfast. They are very ideal for parties as it can be made a day before and kept in refrigerator or in a freezer. There is no need to defrost as it can go straight into the oven.

They are very simple to make. Totally it takes 10 to 15 minutes for the preparation and baking it in the oven takes 20 to 25 minutes. Sounds great, right!!

Let us check the recipe for it. A must try recipe❤

INGREDIENTS

The below quantity can make 4 apple pie pastries.

  • Apple- 1
  • Pastry sheet- to make 4 pastries
  • Butter- 1 tbsp
  • Sugar- 1 tbsp full ( brown sugar or white sugar can be used. I have used brown sugar)
  • Cinnamon powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Egg- 1 ( whisk the egg in a bowl)
  • Lemon- squeeze a little( optional).

PROCEDURE

To thaw the frozen pastry sheets, move it from the freezer to the fridge the night before and roll it out chilled. This step is very important.

Whisk one egg in a bowl.

Preheat the oven to 180 degree celsius for 10 to 15 minutes.

Clean the apple well and chop it into very small pieces. Once chopped, start to cook or they might turn brown.
Heat 1 tbsp of butter in a pan. Add the chopped apple pieces.
Saute for 2 minutes. You can see the apple turning translucent and the juice coming out from them.
Then add the sugar and cinnamon powder. We are going to caramelize the apples. By this time, your kitchen will be filled with rich aroma.

Immediately just squeeze the lemon once. Just the juice of it, avoid the seeds!! 1/2 tsp to 1 tsp of lemon juice is enough. When lemon is used, you can get the aroma and taste from the lemon. But this step is optional. Saute everything till it thickens. It will take mostly 2 minutes after the sugar added.
Ready and thick now. Switch off the flame.
Let it cool.
Now cut 4 pieces from the pastry sheets. They are in room temperature.
Place 1 tbsp of the apple filling in the center of each pastry.
Brush the corners of the pastry with the egg wash.
Now wrap one side on the other as shown above and seal the edges tight with the fingers.
Make a mark with the fork around the corners as shown above.
You can do any decoration on top.
Now brush the top of each pastry with egg wash.
Sprinkle some sugar granules on top of each pastries. Transfer them carefully to the baking tray.
Keep it in a preheated oven and bake at 180 or 200 degree celsius for 20 to 25 minutes till they fluff up and top surface turns brown. If you have made the puff pastries the day before and frozen them, they might take 10 more minutes.
Out from the oven and completely done. Let it cool.

TIPS

  • Baking time varies from oven to oven. Keep an eye on the oven.
  • Both brown sugar and white sugar can be used. Half tablespoon more sugar can be added. Apple has it’s own sweetness. So these pies doesn’t require much extra sugar.
