Avocado Chutney

Avocado is an incredible Superfruit. There are many health benefits of eating them. Eating an avocado a day helps to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Avocado helps to protect from age-related eye degeneration. It helps to maintain blood sugar level. It is rich in fiber and helps to aid digestion. Protection against cancer, aiding healthy brain, healthy skin, healthy heart, healthy pregnancy are some of the benefits of eating avocado.

So I like to add avocado to the diet. Other than avocado milkshake and avocado smoothie, I wanted to find a way to add it to the normal food. The idea of avocado chutney came up through this way!!

Avocado chutney is not only a good side dish for idli, dosa and chapathi but also can be used as a spread inbetween the breads.


INGREDIENTS

  • Ripened Avocado – 2
  • Onion – 1 big( 1 cup)
  • Tomato- 1(3/4th cup)
  • Red chilli- 2 to 3
  • Garlic- 3 cloves
  • Peanuts- 2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
  • Asafoedita powder- little
  • Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal- 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves- 15
  • Coriander leaves- little
  • Salt- as needed

PROCEDURE

Clean the avocados well and remove the outer skin and mash them with bsckside of spoon or cut it into cubes.

Heat oil in a pan. I used sesame oil. Add cumin seeds, garlic cloves and red chillies.
Once they are sauted, add peanuts and saute the peanuts till they are brown in medium flame.
Add onions and saute them till they become translucent.
Once onions are translucent, add tomatoes , asafoedita powder, salt and saute till the tomatoes become soft.


Add coriander leaves and let it cool for sometime.
Take a separate pan and heat oil. Saute mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves and keep them side.
Now grind the cooled mixture in a mixie jar. Give it two grind so that it is coarse.
Add the avocado now and grind it once along with the previous mixture. Let the chutney be little coarse.
Now add the sauted mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves to the grinded coarse paste.


TIPS

  • Small sized tamarind can be added along with tomatoes and sauted. I did not add because I used big tomato.
