Banana and Oats Ladoo/ Urundai

Happy Navarathri to you all🎉

This is completely my innovation!! Have you  heard about this recipe anywhere? But these ladoos are very unique with the taste of bananas. It’s little similar to “banana halwa”-my favourite sweet when it was a kid!!

During these Navarathri days, I used to make one ladoo recipe each day. On that day, I had almost 1 dozen of bananas left out at home which were ripe. Searching for a new recipe, I ended up with these ladoos which turned out to be so good!!

The recipe doesn’t have many ingredients and it is quite simple to make. The key is to stir bananas in a pan till it separates itself from the corners of the pan and you could roll them into balls.

I have used oats just to replace any other flour. Oats used gives little crunchiness to these ladoos and it helps to hold the shape. Oats is equally healthy too!!

As banana has it’s own natural sweetness, I haven’t added much extra sugar. I have used less quantity of dark brown sugar. If you want to use white sugar, you can. You can always increase the quantity of sugar if you would wish.

It is a very healthy snack to be prepared at home. Very healthy for everyone especially for kids!! I liked these ladoos a lot as I like banana in every form.

Do try this recipe at home❤

INGREDIENTS

  • Ripe banana- 7 big
  • Oats- 3/4th cup
  • Sugar- 2 heaped tbsp
  • Walnuts- 2 tbsp
  • Cinnamon- 1/2 tsp ( optional)
  • Cardamom powder- 1/4th tsp.

PROCEDURE

Dry roast the oats in a pan in medium flame for 5 minutes till it turns aromatic. Do not burn it. Keep it separate.
Dry roast walnuts in the same pan for 2 minutes.
Let them both come to normal room temperature.
Chop the walnuts to small pieces. You can powder it if you prefer.
Once it is cool, move the oats to a mixer jar. Grind it to fine powder or coarse as you wish.
Peel the skin of bananas and mash it with the backside of spoon or fork.

Heat 2 tbsp of ghee in a pan.
Add the mashed bananas. We are going to stir the mashed bananas till the moisture evaporates, it becomes thick and separates itself from the corners of the pan. Keep the flame in low to medium. Do not burn. I will show the changes in the below picture.

Now dip your fingers in water and touch the surface of the banana. It will not be sticky.
At this point, you can pinch a small piece out of it and roll it as a ball in your hands. Perfect consistency!!
It has separated itself from the corners.
Now add 2 tbsp of sugar. Both white and brown sugar can be used.
Mix everything together.
Now add the oats powder, chopped walnuts, cinnamon powder and cardamom powder. Mix everything together and switch off the flame.
Cool it down before rolling into balls.

Roll it tight into balls.
Ready.

TIPS

  • Any nuts of your choice can be used. As I prefer walnuts, I have used it.
  • The quantity of sugar can be increased.
  • Cinnamon powder is optional. Skip it if you do not have.
